Choosing the right electric forklift battery for a reach truck or narrow-aisle forklift starts with one question: will the battery fit your truck and support your actual work and charging schedule? Voltage, weight, compartment dimensions, usable energy and charger compatibility all matter more than Ah alone.

Polinovel 48V LiFePO4 battery solutions engineered for reach trucks and narrow-aisle material handling equipment.
At Polinovel , we supply LiFePO4 battery solutions for material-handling equipment. In this guide, we explain how to evaluate a 48 V-class application and introduce three of our lithium battery options: 412Ah and 525Ah for reach trucks, and 920Ah for narrow-aisle forklifts . Compare their published specifications below, then send our team your truck details for a battery recommendation and quotation .
Start with the Truck, Not the Largest Ah Rating
Begin with the truck model, serial number, data plate and applicable manual. Narrow-aisle operation describes a working environment; it does not establish the truck's voltage or identify an approved replacement battery. Confirm that your equipment belongs in the 48 V selection range before comparing capacity.
Confirm the 48 V Platform
Keep the commercial voltage class separate from the battery's nominal voltage. Our three options fall in the 48 V commercial category , with 51.2 V nominal voltage listed on their product pages. The truck controller and charger must still support the complete operating-voltage range.
If you are considering a lead-acid-to-lithium conversion or replacing an existing lithium pack, share the truck data plate and charger details with us. We can review the proposed electrical configuration and provide the voltage limits that must be confirmed before the battery is approved for installation.
Check Weight, Dimensions and Retention Before Capacity

Treat physical fit as an entry requirement. A pack must satisfy the specified mass, installation envelope and restraint arrangement before its energy capacity becomes relevant.
Verifying physical compartment dimensions, cable clearance, and retention systems prior to lithium battery integration.
Minimum and Maximum Battery Weight
Crown's ESR 1200 specifications provide configuration-specific battery weight ranges and battery-box dimensions. A separate Crown reach-truck operator manual warns against underweight or undersized batteries in its Flooded Lead Acid Batteries section. That warning is evidence of a model-specific installation risk, not a lithium-battery approval or a universal instruction for every reach truck. Use the current instructions for the actual truck and power-source configuration. ( Crown ESR 1200 specifications ; Crown reach-truck operator manual )
Use the weight requirements for your actual truck. When requesting a Polinovel configuration, include the permitted battery mass range so we can discuss the complete assembly, including its enclosure and any required ballast. A lighter lithium pack is acceptable only if the completed installation meets the vehicle's requirements; reduced weight is not a universal stability benefit.
For U.S. workplaces covered by OSHA, modifications affecting truck capacity or safe operation require the manufacturer's prior written approval, with associated markings updated accordingly. OSHA also restricts additional counterweighting without truck-manufacturer approval. These are U.S. requirements with defined scopes, not worldwide rules for every battery replacement. ( OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.178(a)(4) and (q)(6) )
Compartment and Cable Clearance
Compare an installation drawing with the actual compartment. Include terminal positions, cable bend space, connector access, lifting provisions and the removal path. External length, width and height alone cannot confirm installation clearance.
The cited Crown manual's flooded lead-acid battery section calls for correctly positioned and adjusted retainers to prevent battery movement. For a proposed lithium installation, follow the applicable truck and battery instructions and obtain a configuration review rather than improvising restraints or ballast on site. ( Crown operator manual )
Size Energy Around Work and Charging Windows
Select capacity from the work the battery must support between dependable charging opportunities. Start with measured battery-side energy consumption for representative tasks, including demanding periods, rather than assuming that every operating hour consumes the same amount.
Nominal Energy Is Not Guaranteed Runtime
For an arithmetic comparison, nominal energy in kWh equals nominal voltage multiplied by Ah, divided by 1,000. For our three options, that gives approximately 21.09 kWh (412Ah) , 26.88 kWh (525Ah) and 47.10 kWh (920Ah) . This checks nameplate arithmetic; it does not measure usable energy or predict a shift length.
For a quotation and application review, ask our team about usable-energy data for the agreed state-of-charge (SOC) window, temperature, load and battery condition. Specify whether the data represents a new battery or an agreed state of health or service stage. If later-service data is unavailable, the assessment establishes suitability only for the capacity condition evaluated; it does not demonstrate that the same schedule will remain achievable throughout the planned service period.
Define the reserve needed before the next reliable charge. Keep that reserve separate from energy already excluded by the SOC window so it is not deducted twice. Test later-service capacity assumptions separately and identify them as assumptions until supported by appropriate data.
Crown describes power studies that monitor consumption and replenishment, then model applications and charging scenarios. This supports using operating data to make the selection; it supplies no runtime guarantee for the packs discussed here. ( Crown power-management guidance )
Test the Charging Schedule
Build a chronological energy worksheet. For each work block, record energy used; for each charging opportunity, record energy actually restored to the battery. Check both the minimum remaining energy before a task and the balance across consecutive shifts.
Use the blank worksheet below for consecutive work and charging blocks. Record all energy in kWh on a consistent battery-side basis. Remaining usable energy means energy available above the agreed lower SOC limit, capped by the usable-energy maximum for the battery condition being assessed. The reserve is an additional requirement within that usable window.
| Time / block | Starting usable energy | Task energy used | Net energy restored | Ending usable energy | Lowest usable energy in block | Required reserve | Charging / queue notes |
| Work block | |||||||
| Charging block | |||||||
| Next work block |
Ending usable energy = starting usable energy − task energy used + net energy restored. Carry each ending balance into the next block. Separate work and charging periods, and split a block further when its sequence could conceal a low-energy point.
For an arithmetic illustration only, not a measured truck result, start with 15 kWh of usable energy. A 5 kWh work block leaves 10 kWh; a charging block that actually restores 3 kWh raises it to 13 kWh; a further 4 kWh work block leaves 9 kWh. With an illustrative reserve of 4 kWh, the minimum balances in these separated blocks pass the reserve check. Real inputs must come from the proposed battery condition, work measurements and validated replenishment data.
Use measured battery-side replenishment, or a clearly identified estimate supported by the proposed charge profile. Do not substitute wall-side electricity consumption for restored battery energy. Credit only energy retained within the agreed usable window; account for losses and auxiliary demand consistently without deducting them twice. This is a planning worksheet, not a validated performance model.
A schedule passes the energy check only when:
- Each task starts with enough usable energy for its demand and the agreed reserve before the next dependable charge.
- The lowest balance within every block remains at or above the agreed reserve; a satisfactory ending balance cannot hide an earlier shortfall.
- Consecutive shifts, including their planned recovery charging, show no continuing net energy deficit.
Repeat the check for the agreed service-stage capacity and for credible missed or shortened charging windows. Keep unsupported replenishment and capacity assumptions visible in the assessment.
| Operating situation | Selection priority | Evidence to collect |
| A shift followed by a dependable long charging window | Enough usable energy for work and reserve | Representative consumption and verified recharge time |
| Multiple shifts with reliable breaks | Energy balance across work and charging blocks | Charger availability, connection time and charge logs |
| Multiple shifts with uncertain access to charging | Adequate energy for the longest credible gap | Missed-break scenarios and an agreed contingency |
| Cold-storage work | Energy and charging permission at actual battery temperature | Temperature logs, charging limits and any heater validation |
A scheduled break is not automatically a charging window. Travel, queuing and connection reduce the available time. Charging power may also change with SOC, temperature and system limits. Validate the timetable under expected fleet demand before relying on opportunity charging to replace spare batteries.
Explore Our 48 V Reach Truck and Narrow-Aisle Lithium Batteries
Once you know your truck's electrical, weight and space limits and have estimated the energy needed between charges, you can narrow the choice to a specific battery configuration. Polinovel offers 412Ah, 525Ah and 920Ah LiFePO4 options in the 48 V class. They cover different energy requirements and installation envelopes; the best starting point depends on your truck and duty cycle, not simply which pack has the highest capacity.

48 V 412Ah Reach Truck Lithium Battery - FL51412
Our 48 V 412Ah reach truck lithium battery is one option to evaluate where 21.09 kWh of nominal storage meets the planned duty cycle and the truck can accommodate its published dimensions and mass. The listing includes LiFePO4 cells, battery management protection, a display and CAN/RS485 communication interfaces. Its discharge-current entry is 400A; the continuous and peak-current conditions need to be checked for the proposed application.
Considering this model? Send us an inquiry with the truck model, compartment dimensions and duty cycle. Ask for the current FL51412 configuration specification, including confirmed operating and charging-voltage limits, before selecting a charger or authorizing an installation.
48 V 525Ah Reach Truck Lithium Battery - FL51525
Our 48 V 525Ah reach truck lithium battery provides 26.88 kWh of nominal energy and is an option when a reach-truck application calls for more stored energy and the 1,100 × 410 × 655 mm listed enclosure can be accommodated. The product page lists a 200A discharge-current entry, BMS protection, an LED display and CAN/RS485 interfaces. Its lower published mass compared with FL51412 is not an automatic advantage: the complete installation must still meet the truck's minimum battery-weight and retention requirements.
Interested in the 525Ah option? Contact Polinovel for a configuration quotation . Share your battery compartment, required mass range, connector and shift schedule so we can review fit, energy capacity and charger requirements with you.
48 V 920Ah Narrow-Aisle Forklift Lithium Battery - FL51920
For narrow-aisle fleets evaluating a larger energy reserve, our 48 V 920Ah narrow-aisle forklift lithium battery offers 47.10 kWh of nominal storage . This option deserves consideration when work demand or limited charging access calls for greater stored energy, provided that the truck can accept the 1,122 × 533 × 787 mm enclosure and 1,320 kg published mass. Capacity alone does not confirm multi-shift runtime or a suitable charger.
Need a high-capacity narrow-aisle solution? Ask our team about the FL51920 and request a quotation . Include the actual truck, battery-box measurements, charging opportunities and minimum/maximum permitted battery mass. We can discuss the configuration to be assessed and the supporting data needed for integration.
Not Sure Which Capacity Fits? Ask Polinovel
There is no need to guess between 412Ah, 525Ah and 920Ah from the product titles alone. Send us your reach-truck or narrow-aisle forklift details and tell us what you need the battery to do. We can help you compare these options against the truck's installation limits, measured workload and practical charging schedule, and discuss a configuration for quotation and validation.
For final procurement review, ask us for the latest configuration-controlled datasheet. In particular, the charge-cutoff voltage entries on the publicly displayed FL51412 and FL51920 pages require clarification before charger settings or compatibility can be approved. A product listing is a starting point for an inquiry, not a substitute for the confirmed project specification.
When Larger Capacity Needs Further Verification
Consider a larger pack when energy demand justifies it and the installation remains acceptable. Check battery mass, compartment space, drive/lift current requirements and the real time available for replenishment rather than extending an existing approval solely because the voltage class matches.
For perspective, our product listings give 200A charging-current entries for FL51412 and FL51525 and 250A for FL51920. Dividing nominal capacity by those currents gives idealized constant-current figures of 2.06 , 2.63 and 3.68 hours , respectively, to add the nominal Ah if that current could be maintained throughout. These are arithmetic comparisons, not quoted charging times: real charging depends on starting SOC, charging profile, temperature, tapering and system constraints. We recommend validating the proposed charging schedule before making any runtime or spare-battery decisions.
Verify the Battery–Truck–Charger Interface
We recommend evaluating the Polinovel battery, the truck and its charger as a single system. Crown's integrated-system description illustrates how vehicle displays and chargers can communicate with a battery management system (BMS). Actual functions and communication compatibility still need to be confirmed for the proposed Polinovel battery and truck combination. ( Crown integrated-system description )
Connectors and Communication
As part of your inquiry, tell us about the existing connector, polarity, current requirements, cable routing and charging interlocks. A matching connector appearance is insufficient evidence that an existing charger can be reused.
Controller Area Network (CAN) and RS485 are communication interfaces; their names do not define the application protocol. A listed interface does not confirm compatibility. Request pinouts, message definitions, software versions and the required SOC, fault and charge-permission behavior. Agree how the system should respond to loss of communication, temperature limits and low charge, then validate those responses using an approved test procedure.
Temperature Limits
Separate discharge permission from charging permission. Our FL51525 listing gives a discharge range of −20 °C to 60 °C and a charging range of 0 °C to 55 °C. A discharge rating down to −20 °C does not authorize charging there. These published operating limits do not establish retained rated capacity throughout the range. ( Polinovel FL51525 )
Check the truck manufacturer's temperature restrictions as well as the battery limits. The Crown reach-truck manual cited above prohibits operating or leaving its lithium-ion-equipped trucks in freezing temperatures. A battery's published discharge range does not override the instructions applicable to the actual truck. ( Crown operator manual )
For cold-storage procurement, request the controlling temperature measurement, charge-enable threshold, heater configuration, warm-up time and energy consumption. Include preheating in the charging timetable and energy budget. Confirm the proposed enclosure and connector arrangement for condensation exposure; an ambient-temperature claim alone cannot resolve these questions.
Compare the Complete System Cost and Warranty
When comparing our battery options with another power solution, use the same completed workload, evaluation period, service-stage capacity assumptions and currency. Include the equipment and changes necessary to make each option usable, rather than comparing battery prices alone.
| Cost or contract item | What the comparison should establish |
| Battery and installation | Pack configuration, enclosure, approved ballast, restraints and commissioning |
| Charging equipment and site work | Charger, electrical installation, available supply and charging access |
| Operating energy | Measured wall-side electricity for equivalent completed work |
| Maintenance and support | Required inspections, labor, service availability and transport charges |
| Operational interruption | Documented changes in charging, swapping or downtime, without counting the same saving twice |
| Warranty and replacement | Coverage limits, capacity threshold, exclusions and responsibility for repairs |
A planning calculation can add acquisition, installation, operating and expected replacement costs over a stated period, then subtract documented residual value. Discount future cash flows when appropriate. Keep measured values separate from assumptions, and test whether the result changes when utilization, electricity price or replacement timing changes.
Carry the same service-stage capacity assumptions into the cost comparison, including any replacement or charging changes needed to maintain the required workload. Do not convert a cycle-life headline into guaranteed calendar life. Ask how a cycle is defined, which temperature and discharge conditions apply, and what capacity marks the stated life endpoint. Warranty years, operating hours and energy-throughput limits may create different coverage boundaries; request the actual terms before calculating a payback period.
Prepare a Request for Quotation and Validate the Configuration
A detailed inquiry helps our team discuss the right Polinovel battery and charger configuration for your application. To request a Polinovel quotation , include:
- Truck manufacturer, model, serial number and clear data-plate photographs.
- Permitted voltage range and minimum and maximum battery mass.
- Compartment measurements, retention arrangement and installation photographs.
- Connector details, pinouts, cable positions and required vehicle communication.
- Representative energy consumption, lift duties, loads, operating schedule and the completed energy worksheet, with the assessed battery condition identified.
- Charging windows, available chargers, electrical supply and queue constraints.
- Temperature conditions, quantity, delivery market and required documentation.
Before placing a fleet order, agree the proposed configuration, applicable approval route and acceptance criteria. A representative trial should verify fit, retention, task completion, energy reserve, charging recovery, temperature behavior and agreed fault responses. Use qualified personnel and the relevant manufacturers' procedures; a successful trial does not replace required approvals.
Let us help you shortlist the right battery.
